International travel has become much more convenient with simple financial solutions offered by banking institutions for clients. First National Bank (FNB) is renowned for its innovative solutions and services. Its credit card solutions are offered at competitive rates and come with a number of rewards.

Here’s what you need to know about activating an FNB Credit Card for international travel

One of the main benefits of owning a credit card is that you can use it at almost any merchant worldwide. Essentially, you can use your MasterCard or Visa-enabled credit card anywhere in the world.

FNB has a range of credit card solutions such as Gold, Premier, Private and Private Wealth. Each credit card has its own set of qualifying criteria, which applicants must fulfil before potentially qualifying.

The cards come with free comprehensive global travel insurance and automatic debt protection. To apply, you will need to provide a copy of your most recent payslip, your latest 3 months’ bank statements, your valid South African ID and proof of residence.

When using your FNB Credit Card for international travel, there is no merchant fee when using it overseas.

If you were to use your cheque card, you could expect to pay conversion fees of up to 2.75%.  You will also be charged using the exchange rate of the particular day.

If you experience any trouble activating an FNB Credit Card for international travel, you could also consider travel cards as an alternative.

To apply for this type of card, you would need to provide documentation such as your passport and a copy of your air ticket.
