Deciding on the South African cars of the year is never an easy decision, by any account. With the various models produced and delivered on a monthly basis, drivers are spoiled for choice.
The finalists in the 2019 AutoTrader South African Car of the year competition include:
- Honda Civic Type R
- Hyundai Kona
- Lexus ES
- Alfa Romeo Stelvio
- Nissan Micra
- Renault Duster
- Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
- Porshe Cayenne
- Volvo XC40
- Mercedes Benz A-Class
The A-Class was the overall winner in the competition, leading the pack as a car model that espouses innovation and ingenuity.
With impressive interior comfort, innovative technology, exemplary safety features and great design, the Mercedes Benz A-Class easily convinced the jury, which consisted of experienced journalists in the motoring sector.
The advanced engine leads to optimal efficiency and performance and this is evident in the top speed of 225km/h, while it takes only eight seconds to accelerate from 0-100km/h.
Available in two models, namely the A200 and A250 sport model, the A-Class is offered from R499 000- a factor that was considered in the decision to crown this as the best of South African cars of the year.
There is no doubt that the introduction of the third generation compact models led to a shift towards a more youthful brand for Mercedes.
Featuring a sporty exterior, the Mercedes A-Class took top honours in the competition, which saw Porsche Cayenne taking first place in the Leisure Crossover division.
The new A-Class is also the first to feature MBUX (Mercedes Benz User Experience) technology- a system that adapts to suit the user through Artificial Inteligence.
